What kind of inflammation can e-cigarettes cause

E-cigarettes have only become popular in the past five years or so, so little is known about their negative effects. To simulate the use of e-cigarettes, the researchers exposed young mice to peppermint and mango e-cigarette aerosol three times a day for three months, and then looked for various signs of inflammation in the mice. The researchers found that:

① Daily exposure to e-cigarettes may induce neuroinflammation in brain regions responsible for behavior change, drug reward, and the formation of anxious or depressive behaviors, especially in the NAc shell and NAc core;

(2) Inhalation of e-cigarette aerosol for 3 months can change the expression of inflammatory state and fibrosis related genes in heart tissue, and these changes are likely to lead to changes in human disease susceptibility and morbidity;

③ The pro-inflammatory markers in the colon were changed after inhaling e-flue gas aerosol for 3 months.

(4) Exposure to e-flue aerosol for 1 and 3 months may not cause significant changes in airway physiology, but this does not rule out the possibility of long-term exposure.

(5) After inhaling e-flue aerosol for 3 months, the gene expression level changed the inflammatory state of lung under the stable condition;

⑥ The inflammatory response of each organ was different depending on the flavor of the e-cigarette used. Compared with the mice inhaling the mango flavored e-cigarette aerosol, the heart of the mice inhaling the peppermint flavored e-cigarette aerosol was more sensitive to the bacterial pneumonia.

Therefore, this study proves that the use of e-cigarette is associated with cardiovascular adverse and immune responses, and the brain of e-cigarette aerosol exposed mice showed significant neuroinflammation, as well as changes in the regulation of inflammation in the heart, lung and gastrointestinal tract, which are highly correlated with the organ health level and the overall health level.
